T herefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Not everyone that says Lord Lord, They pray they call but there is no real depth of a walk with Him, they call but they have never really come to God to receive forgiveness, they know not of His love, they know nothing of God rebuilding their lives.
Old things have not passed away, all things are not really new. They confess to be Christians but with their mouth sadly its with their lips only. But their heart is really far far away. There has been no experience of hearing His voice, knowing His love and peace, there has been no experience of conversion. There has been no turning from sinful behaviour, there has been no yielding of their life to Him.
They are not really Christians.
They may think they are. But at the end of life there will be such a tragic outcome. Matthew 7:23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
This is why I am explaining the message of salvation the message of the Gospel. That you may truly find the Lord. It’s done in compassion , because the price is so high if you don’t get born again. To loose eternity with Him and to loose your soul is unthinkable.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:
This is a parable about 2 houses, two types of ground, but really about 2 lives.
These 2 houses are 2 groups that summarise all the people of the earth. Really you are in one or the other group. The Parable is of 2 builders the wise and the foolish. We are all the builders in this parable – we are all building our lives. Everything we do is another brick in the building of our life.
Wise and foolish have a lot in common. They both want to build. They have both looked at similar land. The ground for both of them was sand. But one dug down deep to build on the rock while the other one just built on the sand.
Let’s look at the one who built on the sand.
A building for show. The foolish man built on the sand. He looked and thought it was firm enough. The result was that he seemed to be doing so well. He seemed so much faster than the other man. It’s a success story. When you look at the house from the outside you can see it all. There is nothing under the surface to see, nothing deeper, no foundation to see. It’s all built for the here and now. It’s all built for show.
It’s a picture of life of so many lives. Lives without any foundation. A life that deals only with that which can be touched and seen only that which you can hold and have. A life of only material things. A life with nothing deeper, a life that does not seek God, and so when you look at such a person what you see is all they have. There is no depth and foundation to such a life. Shallow empty life but they seem very happy that is until the rains come down and waters rise. Surely someone should have warned them, every few years the rains come and there are floods, someone should have said if you don’t dig down deep to the rock you house will be ruined! even if someone did warn him he would have answered, no, I don’t believe it. Floods come in my life time. If they come at all I’ll be dead and gone. We don’t like to think of the final storm of life that will come to all. We only like to think of life now. Death seems so very far away and the foolish man ignores it. Eternity is ignored.
This man says, no no the storm is a long way away, it won’t come in my life time. I can do it, I know how. He checks the ground again and says this seems firm enough, let me build. That’s the man who says I can live life without God. I don’t need your divine help. I don’t like what the bible says, telling me I got to go on my knees and repent saying Im a sinner. I’m not going to say that. I don’t believe in a God that I can’t even see. People treat me well in life, my house is good. I don’t need God.
The house on the sand withstood the rain at first , but the wind arose and a tempest came. Some live very well for a long time, but in life trouble comes, relationship problems, very painful. Or another storm, they lose all their money, or sickness comes. Life has many storms.
The foolish man who doesn’t believe in God has No divine help, no help from on high no one to call upon for help in a time of trouble. Then when the final storm will come. The final storm of Life. Death itself
The foolish man has lost everything, he has nothing to take to heaven, he has no right to enter heaven, he has never been forgiven by God. He has lost everything . He has lost his soul and lost his eternity.
All His life, His house was earthly, nothing was for God, nothing was spiritual. Don’t be the foolish one.
The wise man. Hears God’s word and does God’s word.
He built upon the rock. The house fell not because it was founded on the rock. The wise man hears and digs deep, I need a foundation I can’t trust this world. I need God’s help. The wise man seeks for the Lord, the wise man considers what the Lord Says.
He realises he needs God for mercy and forgiveness. He asks, Will God receive me? God’s answer is wonderful, He who comes to me I will in no wise refuse. The one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
His digging doesn’t save him. His repentance doesn’t save his soul. It’s the rock Christ Jesus. Who is the saviour The rock the firm foundation . He will uphold us with his gracious hand. He will not desert us. He will never, no never forsake us.
Whats the house built upon? What foundation does your life have? No foundation, no relationship with God.
You can’t live like that. Think of the saviour think of the cost of our salvation. Think of Jesus and ask him to forgive you and save you.
Come to Him in Prayer.
Father we come to you now asking for your divine help so many have no depth to their lives let them today start afresh let them start a new life in Christ Jesus . Let them be Born again. Draw many Lord to put their hope and trust in you. Amen.
